Island Ignite relies on the generous support of fire departments on Vancouver Island  and the Gulf Islands to sponsor youth and to host camp events. 

Camp Hosts will  allow our camp to operate on their facilities for at least one day of the camp. Ideally the department has a sizeable training area where our campers can safely participate in active fire drills and skills, with an area to rest and rehabilitate, adequate parking and a diverse option of equipment. 

Host Departments can state what types of training exercises they are most interested in hosting  including auto-extrication, technical rope rescue, hazmat operations, search and rescue tactics, fire attack strategies, forcible entry technique or fire fitness drills. A live fire prop is always fun though we understand there are limits to offering this during summer months. We require the host to provide all the tools and apparatus for execution of the training and the necessary departmental staff required to ensure we are adhering to the departments standards of operation for their equipment. 

Our Island Ignite team would need access to the host location from roughly 7am to 5:30pm depending on the days program. We will bring  snacks, water and any items we need to operate our program and will work with the department to assist with set up and tear down. Ideally the host department will sponsor lunch for themselves and the group and will provide a shaded area for campers to rest during a well earned break from the days activities.

We aim to vary the location annually to allow all departments a chance to share in the experience of being part of the Island Ignite Mentorship Society.  We encourage senior officers and training officers to attend and welcome our campers to their station. 

A cornerstone of our program is the chance to showcase the camaraderie that is inherent in the fire service. Having all our brothers and sisters of the IAFF be present to share their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm is a great way to showcase the very best of the fire service!
